Over the years, I have focused my clay work into four basic directions, Boxes, Jars, Bowls, and Cups..
When I began my art career I thought I’d become a production potter because I loved pottery and was good at throwing. I focused on technique since I had yet to establish a personal aesthetic for glazing. Over the years, as I studied a variety of styles and pottery traditions, and after a fortuitous trip to Europe at the age of 26, I developed that personal aesthetic I saught and gained a fuller understanding of myself and art. Today my clay works have been richly influenced by my love of painting and more notably, by the time ravaged forms and surfaces of the ancient bronzes from China’s Chou and Shang dynasties.
